What Actually Happens on School Photo Day
If your experience with school photos is anything like mine was growing up, the process went something like this: a crumpled envelope comes home in the bag. You pick a package, stuff cash in the envelope, send it back, and hope for the best. Six weeks later you get a photo where your kid looks slightly startled, like someone just yelled their name across a car park.
We do things differently. And since parents often ask us what photo week actually looks like, here's the honest version.
Before we arrive, you'll get a registration link. This isn't a payment form. You're not choosing a package or committing to buying anything. You're just letting us know you'd like your child photographed and giving us your contact details so we can send you the gallery afterwards. It takes about two minutes.
On photo day, our team arrives at the school or centre around 9am. We set up in whatever space works best (a quiet corner of a classroom, a shaded spot outside, sometimes a hallway with great natural light). Our coordinator works with the educators to bring children over when they're ready, so there's minimal disruption to the day. No pulling kids out of the middle of an activity. No lining them up in a corridor.
Each child gets about six minutes with the photographer, which is a lot more than most school photo setups allow. We use that time to actually connect with them. Play a game, tell a joke, ask them what their favourite animal is. The goal isn't one usable frame; it's a gallery of different expressions so you can pick the ones that feel most like your child.
If you've registered siblings at the same school, we'll photograph them together too. Those end up in a separate gallery so you can view and order them independently.
After photo week, our team goes through every gallery. We select the strongest images, colour correct them, and process the group photos. This takes a few weeks (not months). About four weeks after photo day, you'll receive a unique access code by email or text that lets you view your child's private online gallery.
This is where it gets good. You can actually see every photo before you spend a cent. Browse the gallery, show your partner, let your kid pick their favourite. When you're ready, choose from single prints starting at $15, a range of packages, or grab the full digital gallery. If nothing grabs you, you don't have to buy anything. No pressure, no awkward conversations.
If you order within the first ten days, we'll deliver your prints to the school for free. After that, home delivery is available. Either way, prints typically arrive within 5 to 8 business days once they're dispatched.
The whole thing is designed to be low-stress for everyone. No envelopes to lose. No money to send with your four-year-old. No buying a package sight unseen and crossing your fingers.
Just photos of your kid, taken by people who actually like kids, ready for you to look at when you have a spare moment with a cup of tea.
